  • Change your way of thinking; positive thinking yields positive results
  • Attend 12 step meetings regularly
  • Develop both a relapse prevention plan and an emergency relapse plan
  • Stay committed and constantly remind yourself of the rewards of staying sober
  • Reward yourself for staying sober
  • Keep busy and stay active, create a daily routine to abide by and stay active by exercising, volunteering, or finding new hobbies
  • Remember that no amount of drugs or alcohol are ok to use, the goal is to stay completely drug and alcohol free
  • Get a sponsor and actively work with your sponsor
  • Develop and utilize effective coping skills and techniques
  • Constantly encourage yourself that you are strong and capable of staying sober
  • Take it one day at a time, don’t put too much pressure on yourself and accept that you will have bad days sometimes
